Background of the Study
Gender-based electoral policies have been implemented in various countries to enhance women’s political representation and participation. In Sokoto North LGA, Sokoto State, such policies are crucial for addressing the gender disparities that exist in political office-holding. These policies include affirmative action measures, gender quotas, and support for female candidates within political party structures. While these policies have been instrumental in increasing women’s involvement in the political process, their effectiveness in improving female electoral outcomes is still under debate.
This study will appraise the effectiveness of gender-based electoral policies in Sokoto North, focusing on their impact on women’s political representation and participation.
